Gala Musical Celebration of Jewish Renewal in Poland (Pomona)
Sun, October 23, 2016, 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM PDT
Celebrate the renewal of Jewish life in Poland with this gala musical event featuring Cantor David Wisnia, the 90-year-old Warsaw native and survivor of the Nazi horrors who is one of the last living individuals to have their cantorial art personally nurtured by the great cantors of pre-war Poland- Gershon Sirota and Moshe Koussevitsky. Cantor Wisnia will be joined by his grandson Avi Wisnia, an award-winning composer, singer, and performer. The program will also include contributions from two musical representatives of the Jewish renewal taking place today in Poland, Cantorial Solists Rivka Iza Foremniak and Menachem Piotr Mirski from the Progressive Jewish community, Beit Polska. Cantor Paul Buch of Temple Beth Israel will also participate, along with a special musical ensemble created for the occasion by Neal Brostoff. Proceeds will benefit the renewal of progressive Jewish life in Poland.
Following the concert, there will be a reception and then beginning at 7 p.m. Cantor Wisnia and Avi Wisnia will also participate in TBI's Simchat Torah worship service, which will open to all free of charge.
