*UPDATES!* (scroll to the bottom to read more)

Slow Art Day is a worldwide celebration of art that encourages people to look at art SLOWLY – and thereby experience art in a new way. You can see more about Slow Art Day and the mission behind it on our website:

Join us on April 27 as docents, students, friends, and family will come together to view art in an exciting way. For parents with children who want to participate in the event, but cannot attend the entire time, a book reading will take place where parents and children can experience Slow Art Day together. The book is titled Quiet Art by Grammy nominated band Foster The People. At 11:00 AM, participants will sit in front of designated artworks for 5-10 minutes each to create their own interpretation and analysis of the pieces. A Slow Art Day "journal" will be provided, but we encourage those who have their own journals to bring it with them. After an hour, visitors will be led to the Camellia Court Café where they will have lunch* and discuss their thoughts on the pieces with other attendees and docents.

Please consider joining us!

*Participants are responsible for their own lunch.

Here are the four artworks we will be using for Slow Art Day! Come excited!

Suranjanie Nimalendran’s object is the Sculpture of Uma Maheshwara , Cofrin Asian Art Wing

Joanne Block’s object is Eric Fischl, A Woman Possessed, 1981, Cofrin Pavilion

Greg Johnson’s object is Dogon Couple, Kehinde Wiley, 2008, Cofrin Pavilion.

Karan Swartz’s object is Zandvoort, Frank Stella, 1981, Galleria.

Fresno Art Museum

The Fresno Art Museum is located in the heart of Fresno, near the intersection of Clinton and First Streets, next to Radio Park.
Exhibitions include contemporary and modern art and photography and ethnographic and cultural exhibitions which reflect and celebrate the diverse population of the San Joaquin Valley. The Museum is also home to very large and impressive collection of Pre-Columbian artworks from Mexico and what is now modern-day Peru. It is the only museum in Fresno accredited by the Americian Alliance of Museums.
In addition to thought-provoking and exciting exhibitions, the Fresno Art Museum provides the region's 1.6 million residents with a forum for contemporary and modern issues as they relate to art and culture, films, concerts, lectures, docent tours, and symposia to enlighten, educate, and entertain its visitors.
Over 14,000 people from across the Valley and around the world visit the Museum each year.
