About this event

Award-winning Vocalist/Composer/Music Educator G. Thomas Allen (called by Christian McBride “Bishop” ) is listed as a "Rising Star” in the New Jersey Jazz Society, on the heels of winning the 2021 Sarah Vaughan International Vocal Jazz Competition. Recognized as the first and only male, in history, to hold the prestigious SASSY Award – Downbeat Magazine.

Thomas’ work spans to multi-genres, as a former Principal Artist of Los Angeles Opera, and lead singer on GRAMMY nominated album “Choirmaster” (Motown Gospel 2020). He has worked with the late David Baker, jazz educator and conductor of the Smithsonian Jazz Masterworks Orchestra at Strathmore Hall, guest soloist with the Black Pearl Chamber Ensemble, Royal Melbourne Philharmonic, and former member of Baltimore's Soulful Symphony. On the Chicago scene, noted collaborations and recordings with Marquis Hill, Greg Ward, and Pharez Whitted.

Don’t miss G. Thomas Allen 4TET, led by jazz vocalist, composer and music educator G. Thomas Allen (affectionately known as Sir Thomas Allen), whose soul-infused phrases, paired with improvisation both of contemporary stylizing to straight-ahead, classic jazz helped him to win the 2021 Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Competition. Known for his warm timbre and stratospheric range, compared to the likes of Philip Bailey, he is one the world’s leading countertenor voices.
