FVPC Walk a Mile in Their Shoes
Event Information
About this Event
On February 27th, we will each be walking a mile in our neighborhoods/gyms/school track. If you’re brave enough, walk that mile in Someone Else’s Shoes. Did you know that 1 in 3 teens will experience emotional, physical, or sexual abuse in a dating relationship before they become an adult? Abuse doesn’t discriminate by age, gender, social class, or popularity. Often, people that you wouldn’t expect to experience abuse feel quieted by shame and how people will respond if they ask for help.
- Take a picture of yourself walking in shoes that look like they belong to someone else – Acknowledging that teen dating violence can happen to anyone and you stand by the athlete/honor student/homecoming queen/seemingly happy person that could be struggling.
- Those who sign up and post their picture will be eligible for our gift card giveaway! Be sure to tag Family Violence Prevention Center on Facebook and @FVPCteens on Instagram!
- The person who recruits the most people for their team wins $50 in gift cards! You do not have to be together in person! Sign everyone up under one person's name or make a collage of all your pictures to send to us!
You could even share your own story/piece of advice for those in an abusive teen dating relationship. If you would like a little more privacy, email us a picture of your shoes with a card explaining your experience of teen dating violence (how old you were, how long the abuse lasted, & type of abuse). You do not have to include your name, but we will post these pictures from our page to represent survivors’ real story.
