FutureMakers - Summer Maker Sessions at St. James Academy

This summer, make something memorable! FutureMakers workshops are for young makers who love inventing, exploring, prototyping and building with real tools and advanced materials. Led by visiting experts, each set of courses activate design thinking through scaffolded challenges and skill building sessions. All workshops are for ages 9 - 15, and any experience level is welcome. Each workshop is three hours per day, for five mornings or afternoons - please see descriptions for dates and time of day. Participants who enroll for both morning and afternoon classes will be able to stay on campus for a supervised lunch period.
Enrollment includes all materials. All projects go home!
Design and Build: Furniture - $250

Design and build a well-crafted table from plans you design. Safely and accurately measure, cut, join and finish softwoods using a variety of expert level hand tools. No prior experience required, all materials provided. Get ready to build something amazing! Parents - be sure to bring a vehicle to the final session that can fit a small table!
Design and Build: Basics to Boxes – $250

Master the basics of designing and building small, well crafted functional objects – a personal container, a toolbox, and an original hand built design. Follow plans, measure, mark, cut, drill, shape and finish a variety of materials with hand tools. All projects go home!
Electric Art & Engineering Studio – $240

Dream, design and construct electrified kinetic sculptures, glowing creatures and your own amazing advanced creations in our makerspace. Cut wood, form plastic, drill, slice foam, add motors and electronics! Perfect for emerging artists, designers, tinkerers and budding engineers.
Cardboard Arcade Invention Lab - $230

Why play video games, when you can build an old school arcade yourself? Young makers design, prototype, build and play unique analog games of skill and chance from cardboard, foam, plastics and wood. All projects go home - and be ready, they get big! Join us for our Friday free arcade!
Industrial Arts: Model Making and Casting Lab - $240

Explore the origins of 3D design and manufacturing. Make professional grade models and molds of your own design to create things you can use, play with, eat or even sell! Explore modeling and prototyping techniques and flexible mold making. Pour plaster, form plastic, experiment with candy mold making, vacuum forming and casting concrete! All projects go home, so you can make more!
Industrial Arts: Construction Lab - $240

Emerging tinkerers, inventors, artists and engineers learn to use real tools to construct original projects of their own design. Safely cut, drill, form and shape wood! Hammer nails and drive screws! Build big and small to complete a series of tool and material design challenges focusing on experimentation, exploration, and free building, so you can invent something original and awesome. Parents - be prepared to bring home something big on the last day!
