Event description

Description

In association with the Manchester Publicity Association (MPA)

Future Talent in the Creative Industries is an annual event aimed at inspiring our 3rd year undergraduate and postgraduate students at Manchester Met Business School and Manchester School of Art to succeed in working within the creative industries sector, particularly in Manchester and the north west.

We invite motivational speakers and mentors from industry to share their own experiences, the challenges they faced along the way, and to offer expert advice to our students on how to make it.

Keynotes speakers in recent years included John Kampfner, Chief Executive of Creative Industries Federation, and Wayne Hemingway MBE.

This year’s keynote will be delivered by Kelly Byrne, Head of Marketing Operations for Boohoo.com.

Kelly is an alumna of Manchester Metropolitan University having graduated with a BA (Hons) Marketing Management degree in 2005. After a stint traveling and working overseas, Kelly returned to the UK in 2009 to start up a Marketing and PR consultancy with her best friend. She did this because of a lack of jobs in the market – an undoubted effect of the financial crisis.

Boohoo became one of the company’s clients, and after a year or so of consulting Kelly decided to move in-house with them. She has been an integral part of Boohoo’s rapid growth in the last 7 years, taking on various roles within the organisation. Kelly has seen the business grow internationally, a stock floatation, and double digit growth year-on-year.

We are also delighted to welcome a number of other high profile speakers from the creative industries, including:

  • Gary Fawcett – Executive Creative Director, TBWA Manchester
  • Lynne Makinson-Walsh – Director of People and Culture, Dreamr
  • Mike Blackburn – Managing Director, I-COM
  • John Whalley – Executive Creative Director, Seventy7.

For Manchester Metropolitan students taking part in this year’s event, a number of work experience placements are on offer at the above agencies.
