Event description

The Greenville Zoo is excited to have Future Scholar as the 2017 title sponsor of Boo in the Zoo, the Greenville Zoo’s signature Halloween event. Future Scholar Boo in the Zoo takes place October 20-22 & 27-29 and will feature more than 20 trick-or-treat stations; character photo opportunities, including princesses and super heroes; an extinct species graveyard and a Not Very Scary House sponsored by ScanSource. The event site will also include a new area called Dragon Alley.

Event hours are 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday and 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Admission is free for Member Adults (age 15+), $7 for Member Trick-or-Treaters, $6 for Non-member Adults and $8 for Non-member Trick-or-Treaters. Admission for Boo Babies (age 0-2) is free. Corporate group rates are also available.

Tickets go on sale September 11 and can be purchased at the Greenville Zoo ticket booth or here. Children must be accompanied by an adult and everyone is invited to come in costume. For safety reasons, attendees are asked not to bring plastic pumpkins, Halloween bags or sacks. Instead, the zoo will provide special commemorative trick-or-treat bags for the trick-or-treaters.

“There are plenty of things to get you spooked around Halloween time, but saving for college does not have to be one of them!” said South Carolina Treasurer Curtis Loftis. “As this year’s title sponsor for Boo in the Zoo, Future Scholar, which is South Carolina’s only tax-advantaged 529 college savings plan, is happy to give South Carolina families a treat, as well as tricks for saving. With over $3 billion in total assets and more than 140,000 accounts, Future Scholar has proven to be the smart way to save for college in our state. We are thrilled to partner with the Greenville Zoo and bring value to those who attend. Our booth will be the first trick-or-treat stop—we encourage families to stop by to see how non-scary college savings can be.”

Are there ID requirements or an age limit to enter the event? All attendees participating in the trick-or-treater experience must purchase a trick-or-treater ticket. Trick or treating is available for all ages. Members must show their member card and photo ID. Adults must be accompanied by a child for entry.

What are my transport/parking options getting to the event? The event will feature a free park and ride service, provided by Greenlink. Each night, starting one hour before the event, three buses will transport event attendees from County Square (301 University Ridge) to the zoo. The buses will run continuously between the two locations starting an hour before the scheduled event time until 9:00 PM. Attendees are strongly encouraged to utilize this free service, as parking will not be permitted on Woodland Way (from Cleveirvine Avenue to McDaniel Avenue) or on Woodland Way Circle and parking is limited in the park.

What can/can't I bring to the event? No pets are allowed. Trick-or-treating bags will be provided. No outisde bags are permitted. Everyone is encouraged to dress in costume, although it is not required. As with all events at the zoo, there is no smoking.

Where can I contact the organizer with any questions? If you have ticketing questions, sponsor questions, or general event questions please contact Beth (barusch@greenvillesc.gov). If you wish to buy a membership and receive the member discount for your tickets, please visit our website- http://greenvillezoo.com/230/Membership If you need more information about any of the above, please give us a call at 864.467.4300.

Will the animals be on exhibit during the event? The animals are on exhibit until dusk each night. They retire to their dens or nighthouses at dusk for their safety.

Is my registration/ticket transferrable? Yes, you can give it to a friend if you are unable to use it. The name on the ticket doesn't need to match the guest. If you transfer or give away a member ticket, the person redeeming the ticket must be a member and show their membership card and photo ID at the gate.

Can I buy tickets at the Zoo or at the event? Tickets can be purchased before the event at the zoo ticket booth daily from 10:00 AM until 4:15 PM or at the zoo business office Monday through Friday 8:00 AM until 4:45 PM. Pre-purchased tickets can be used any of the six event nights that Boo in the Zoo is offered.

Tickets can also be purchased the night of the event. We accept cash, checks with photo ID and credit cards with a photo ID. You are encouraged to purchase in advance to reduce your wait times. You can purchase a ticket on greenvillezoo.com/boo while standing in line and then show your tickets at the gate on your smart phone. If purchasing tickets on Eventbrite, please purchase your tickets for the night you are going to the event.

I am a member, if I buy a pre-sale ticket, do I still need to show my membership card and ID at Boo in the zoo? Yes, a membership card is required and each named zoo member must show their photo ID. Also, you must have an adult ticket for each adult and an infant ticket if your child is 2 and under and is not trick-or treating.

Can I use my reciprocal zoo membership to get the member rate? Sorry, not for a special event. Reciprocal zoo members pay regular Boo in the Zoo ticket prices.

I have a membership with the Guest option. Can I bring my guest(s) with me and pay the member discounted rate? Yes, guests may attend as long as it is part of your membership.

I have “Guest/Complimentary Tickets,” can I use them for this event? We’re sorry, “Guest & Complimentary Tickets,” are not valid for special events.

I have a baby, do you charge for babies? We do not charge for babies, however, if you want them to be able to trick-or-treat, you will need to buy a trick-or-treaters ticket for them; included is the trick-or-treat approved bag.

I’m an adult and want to trick or treat. Can I? Adults are welcome to upgrade to a child ticket so they can trick-or-treat.

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event? If you purchase your ticket online, you can show the ticket barcode on your smartphone at check-in. Of course, printed tickets are also accepted.

What is the refund policy? There are no refunds for this event. You may give your tickets to another family if you are unable to attend. Keep in mind that only members may redeem member tickets.

The name on the registration/ticket doesn't match the attendee. Is that okay? That's fine.
