Open House Stage Touches on Divorce, Single-Parenting and Overcoming Pain

N.O – (May 28, 2017) Atlanta Author, Poet and Director, Nelson Trimble, shares the trauma of overcoming pain in the stage play, Open House, based on his real-life experiences shared in the book, “Prison, Prayer and Poetry.” As the product of a single-parent home after divorce, Mason, the play’s main character, takes us on a journey through his life as he overcomes one obstacle after another, with no easy way out.
Single-parent homes don’t always start that way, but when a home is divided and broken by divorce, transitioning can be difficult for all involved, especially children. According to a 2014 U.S. Census Bureau report, “Today 1 in 4 children under the age of 18 — a total of about 17.4 million — are being raised without a father and nearly half (45%) live below the poverty line.” With very little support, Mason’s mother turns to nearby neighbors, which lead to be one of the biggest mistakes of her life.
A tale of sex, broken trust and betrayal all come to the forefront as the result of an Open House, leading Mason down a path of crime and destruction as he tries to find his way out. What happens when fathers are absent and mothers are left to provide for their families by any means necessary? On May 28, 2017, Open House, takes us on an emotional roller coaster filled with tears and laughter. Don’t miss this incredible stage play that is uplifting and inspiring, proving why with determination and focus, anyone can make it out of an Open House.
