Event description
Gumbo dinner with beautiful music by Joel Savoy & Kelli Jones!

About this Event

Please join us for a gumbo dinner and beautiful music by Joel Savoy & Kelli Jones as we raise money for the 2020 Swamp in the City music festival!

We are fundraising in order to make this year's Swamp in the City lineup the best one yet. Our goal is to raise an additional $10,000 in order to hire more full bands from Louisiana, including a world-class Zydeco band. As ticket sales alone will not cover the cost of hiring these additional artists, we are counting on your support to help us raise money and continue our mission of promoting Cajun/Creole music and culture in NYC.

A donation of $40 gives you entry to our Fundraiser Party on Sunday, Nov 17th at Sunny's Bar featuring a gumbo dinner with beautiful music by Joel Savoy & Kelli Jones and a Cajun jam to follow.

Thanks for your support and we hope to see you there!

About Joel Savoy & Kelli Jones:

Joel Savoy & Kelli Jones artfully execute a variety of roots music styles harkening back to the days where two fiddles or a fiddle and a guitar was more than enough to make good music and have a good time. Singing songs in Cajun French and English, these two old souls deliver good music, pure and simple.

Joel Savoy is the son of Cajun music royalty, Marc and Ann Savoy, and founder of the Louisiana-based label, Valcour Records. He is a GRAMMY-winning recording engineer and record producer as well as a ten-time GRAMMY nominee. Recently appointed the Artistic Director of the Festival of American Fiddle Tunes in Port Townsend, Washington, Joel is a versatile fiddler and guitarist who has played and taught music around the world for the last 20 years. He has worked with the best in southwest Louisiana as well as with folks like John Fogerty, Linda Ronstadt, Steve Earle, and T-Bone Burnett, although most often he’s seen with his brother Wilson and their parents in the Savoy Family Cajun Band or with the legendary Cajun powerhouse Jesse Lége. In 2017 he was an ICON Award honoree in Lafayette, Louisiana, for his contributions to the area's art, business and culture, and in 2018 he became the curator for the esteemed Louisiana Crossroads concert series at the Acadiana Center for the Arts in Downtown Lafayette.

Kelli Jones grew up in North Carolina playing old-time and bluegrass music. Kelli’s father, Carl Jones, is a well-known and respected mandolin player and songwriter, and Kelli was raised around the Blue Ridge traditions. She moved to Lafayette, Louisiana in 2006 to study dance and learn Cajun fiddling, and she has been living there since. Kelli has become a fixture in the southern Louisiana music scene, performing with the Magnolia Sisters, Double Date, T’Monde, and Feufollet. Her strong singing and repertoire of Cajun and classic country songs have brought her to the center of many stages and festivals.
