Event description

Description

Kate and Mickey met after college in 2003, got married in 2007, and had their twins, Skylar and Nathan in 2014. Kate is a teacher in Old Bridge, and Mickey runs his own DJ Company and has worked for Radio Disney.

At the end of January 2017, Mickey began to feel dizzy and nauseous and started vomiting several times a week. He went to numerous doctors for bloodwork and exams over the course of the next two months to try to find out what was wrong. Finally, in March, after seeing gastro doctors and an ENT, Mickey was sent for an MRI of his brain and soon found out that he had a brain tumor.

About a week later, on March 21, Mickey underwent brain surgery to remove his tumor, only to find out weeks later it was cancer, Medullablastoma, which affects less than 2% of adults and is most prevalent in children. Since his operation in March, Mickey was in the ICU for a week, and then went to rehab for another two and a half weeks to try to regain balance and brain functioning. He received daily physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech. He was home not even a week when he began his grueling daily proton radiation therapy, which lasted for 30 sessions. His next course of action is chemotherapy and/or other therapies to try to keep the tumor from coming back again, as Medullablastoma is a fast-growing tumor that often recurs.

As you can imagine, medical costs are skyrocketing and to top it off, Mickey has been unable to work or watch the kids since March. Mickey was the primary caretaker for the kids during business hours before tragedy struck. Kate is working full-time as a teacher to provide for her family and struggling for childcare for their two, three-year old twins.

We are holding a fundraiser in Mickey's honor, as this is what he enjoys doing most with his own family. All of the proceeds will go directly to the family for medical costs, childcare, household bills, and any other unforeseen expenses that the family may encounter. Bring your family and tell your friends about this extra special family fundraiser!

Mickey's Brain Cancer Fundraiser will be held at the Robbinsville Senior Center in Robbinsville, NJ, on October 15, 2017, from 10:00 am-3:00 pm.
