FIESTA DE COLORES - (Re)Building Communities Through Art

Fiesta de Colores is a global art movement connecting international and national artists with local artists and their communities in Ecuador to share ideas, skills, and a common purpose.

In November of 2016, 6 months after the earthquake that destroyed much of the Ecuadorian coast and killed hundreds of people, FDC gathered a group of 25 international, national and local artists to collaborate with the community of Canoa to lift the town's spirits as well as the local economy, and provide an outlet to process their trauma by creating an outdoor mural gallery of over 30 large-scale murals.

This November, we will continue the project in Canoa and expand the living street art gallery with an additional 30 murals, while deepening the project by partnering with the local high school to establish a sustainable youth art program that will be run by local artists.

We will also extend the project to the Amazonian region of Ecuador, where we will bring together international artists and activists with artists from Ecuador and the Ecuadorian diaspora to exchange ideas and collaborate with the Shuar Kiim community in Zamora, Chinchipe. The artists and the community will work together to create public art projects based on shuar myths and oral histories, while also learning about and working with natural pigments made from Amazonian plants, and create bio-murals to promote environmental awareness.

For more information on these projects or Fiesta de Colores and the artists and communities that we work with, please visit our webpage atwww.fiestadecolores.org.

If you are unable to attend the fundraiser, but would still like to support these projects, you can donate to our online fundraiser here:https://www.youcaring.com/canoaecuador-686032

R I O B A M B A is an Ecuadorian-Lithuanian DJ/producer and cultural promoter based in Brooklyn.

Drawing inspiration from her hybrid diaspora roots, borderless digital dialogue, and bodega soundtracks, Riobamba reconstructs stories of migration and displacement to build out her own club rituals. Her sets interweave remixed Youtube clips and field recordings, urbano soundscapes, sound system anthems, and rave disorder in a tribute to de-colonized club culture "suped up with a twisted, industrial gnarl" (Complex)...

Geko Jones is a Brooklyn-based Puerto-lombian DJ/Producer and party promoter. He is a founding member of both the New York Tropical and Que Bajo?! party franchises in New York. He is a partner and co-owner of the Dutty Artz record label with producer Matt Shadetek and DJ /Rupture. His mixes span the tropical hemispheres and collage together globally sonic hours of dancefloor mayhem. Renowned by top DJ's and producers of the digital cumbia scene in Latin America and European bass-pundits alike, Jones is one of the select few DJ's pushing forward the Latin agenda in a world wide tropical bass scene. His DJ sets incorporate heavy afro-latin percussion mashed up against the hard synth lines and global breaks. The past five years have found him sharing a booth or collaborating with a long roster of A-list globalistas like DJ /Rupture, Vampire Weekend, The Very Best, Buraka Som Systema, ZZK, Toy Selectah, Uproot Andy, Jahdan Blakkamoore, and more.
