Funding Workshop: 4 Step-by-Step Plans + Networking Reception
Sun, May 7, 2017, 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM PDT
This event provides a solid overview of four step-by-step strategies you can use to fund your projects and provides the checklists, detailed instructions, and information on resources you need in order to use each method. You'll learn several strategies you can use to get the money you need to start and grow a business doing what you love.
SPEAKER: Nancy Fulton has been writing, producing, and publishing profitably for more than 20 years, and she's owned, operated, and funded multiple profitable enterprises. She enjoys teaching and has taught for UCLA, the Art Institute & School for Creative Startups in the UK.
GUEST SPEAKER: Paul S Levine, Entertainment Attorney / Literary Agent | Specializing in entertainment law, Paul S. Levine has served the entertainment industry for over thirty-five years. Levine provides a wide range of entertainment industry legal services, including transactions (contract negotiating and drafting) and litigation, as well as being one of California’s few literary attorneys. Levine prides himself on writing comprehensive plain language legal contracts, with a minimum of “legalese”. Whatever the service or case, he works closely with his clients, ensuring that they have a complete understanding of the process, language, and long-term legal implications. He believes in being practical on behalf of his clients, avoiding litigation where possible, and settling cases to the satisfaction of his clients, by way of mediation, arbitration, or direct negotiation with opposing counsel “on the courthouse steps” (prior to his clients’ cases being decided by a judge or jury).
FUNDING SOLUTIONS COVERED:
Crowdfunding/Presales: Learn when and how it makes sense to get people to pay up front for something they want you to create. Learn how to build and promote a crowdfunding campaign, and discover techniques that work for funding even very large and expensive projects swiftly.
Tax Deductible Donations: Learn how and when you can accept tax deductible donations from people and organizations that support the work you do. You may be surprised to discover that you don't have to start a non-profit or a 503c to accept tax deductible donations, and you don't have to give the final product of your work away for free either.
SBA Loans and other Lenders: Learn when it makes sense to use an SBA loan to buy a company rather than building one from scratch. Get a quick primer on how SBA loans work, what you need to have in place, and how to get them processed as quickly as possible. Find out about other lenders who will lend against orders, invoices, contracts, minimum guarantees, state incentives and other assets. Find out how to work with lenders who provide unsecured debt and lines of credit to business owners.
Equity Investors: Learn how to raise money from equity investors using Crowdfunding-CF which was just made legal in 2016. Find out how much you can raise, who can provide it, what must be in place before you start accepting investment, and where to find pools of investors actively looking for a good opportunity.
NETWORKING EVENT: This interactive 2 Hour workshop is followed by a one-hour friendly networking reception with free snacks and a cash bar. This is a good opportunity for you to meet people who are actively working to build and fund projects here in our area. Personal relationships between like-minded entrepreneurs frequently turn into very productive professional relationships over time.
PREPBOOK: Immediately after you place your order, you'll receive a printable ebook with a series of questions/exercises designed to help you make the most out of the event. The questions are deceptively pleasant and straightforward. There's no obligation to answer these questions, and you won't be asked to share your responses, but spending a little time answering the questions will ensure the information in the workbook and event are easy to put to immediate use.
WORKBOOK: The day before the workshop you'll receive a printable workbook via email. It will address what you need to have in place before you can use each of the four funding strategies, the steps you have to follow to get funding, and links to people and organizations who can help you during execution. Most companies will use most or all of these strategies as they launch and start to grow.
PARKING: This workshop and reception are hosted at the beautiful and spacious Magicopolis theater. There are two public parking lots within a block of the location on 4th street, and another public lot a block away on second street. We will start promptly at 5pm so arrive a little early. There are three coffee shops, including two Starbucks, within a block of the location.
NO REFUNDS ON TICKETS: All sales are final unless the event is canceled or moved. You'll receive a detailed prep worksheet immediately after your order that will help you make the most of the event. Workbooks will be sent to the ticket holder via email the day before the event. While you may not cancel your ticket, you may transfer it to someone else if you cannot attend the event for some reason.
NO UPSELL: This event features no upsell to buy another workshop and no hard sell to buy services we provide. This is simply an informative executive workshop. You'll leave with the information outlined above and a solid understanding of paths you can use to move forward. In order to raise money for projects from investors legally, you have to work with lawyers. If you're crowdfunding you'll need to use one of the several crowdfunding platforms that exist in the world. If you don't have an LLC, S-Corp, or C-Corp, you'll need to start one if you want to launch a business. We'll talk about tools, techniques, and resources you can use now and in the future to do these things, but only as practical examples of your options and alternatives. The information provided in this workshop and its materials are meant to help you swiftly understand a broad range of funding/financing options. It's not designed to give, or sell, you legal or financial services, but it will help you understand what advice you do need based on your goals. We'll help you understand exactly what kind of help you need to get your project swiftly funded.
