Event description

Description

Based on the book Woodworking Basics; Mastering the Essentials of Craftsmanship by Peter Korn, this course provides the beginning woodworker with a solid foundation in woodworking. Instruction covers wood characteristics, wood selection, project planning, joinery, hand tools, power tools and more. We begin by milling rough-sawn wood four-square and end with construction of a handsome, solid cherry, Shaker inspired hanging cabinet.

This course is designed to provide you with the foundation for planning and completing your own projects and sets the stage for learning more advanced techniques. In completing the cabinet project, you will learn to operate a jointer, planer, table saw, power miter-saw, bandsaw, router table, and many hand tools. You will also learn joinery techniques that employ strong dowel joints, open mortise & tenon, and dados.

This class will provide you with the confidence and knowledge to know your way around the woodworking shop and tools so you can get a jump start on your woodworking skills. There is a lot of material covered in the class, so come rested and ready to learn.

What to Bring:

  • Safety Glasses
  • Hearing Protection
  • Dust Mask or Respirator (recommended)

Students should wear shop appropriate clothing - closed-toe shoes, no dangling jewelry or loose-fitting long sleeves or straps, long hair should be tied back.
