Fundamentals of Online Teaching for Theological Educators (FoOT-TE) is designed for those who are new to online learning and considering how they can expand their traditional, hybrid, or online courses by embracing the dynamic and expanding world of digital learning. This basic overview provides a launching point into the field as you learn about the strategies and tools used by successful and experienced online educators.

This certificate in online teaching for theological educators is the result of a collaboration between UW-Madison’s Distance Education Professional Development and Virginia Theological Seminary, and is partially funded by a Faculty Development Grant from the Association of Theological Schools.

Dates: September 20, 2018 - November 13,2018

  • Pre-Course: 9/20/18 (~2 hrs work)

  • Week One: 9/25/18 (~5 hrs work/week)

  • Course Ends: 11/05/18

  • Final Project Due: 11/19/18 (~3 additional hrs)

Cost: $620

  • $595 Tuition (UW-Madison)

  • $25 Adminstrative Fees (VTS)

Course Content

· Content and learning activities emphasize the use of technology to deepen learning, and will apply across online, hybrid, and traditional course environments.

· Focus is on practical guidelines for designing learning activities and structuring teaching in online and hybrid courses.

· 35-hour, asynchronous course in which participants receive personalized feedback on an online activity they create for a course.

· Participants will commit to an introduction week (~2 hours), 6 weeks of course content (~5 hours per week), and a final project consisting of a plan for an online learning activity (included in the ~35 hours total). During the course, participants will have weekly due dates and need Internet access at least 2-3 times each week.
