Description

Fundamentals of Horsemanship for Tweens and Teens

Do you want to build a connection with your horse that is true? Do you want to build a foundation in horsemanship for yourself? Do you want to learn how to partner with horses in a respectful, fun, safe, and caring way? Fundamentals of Horsemanship for Tweens and Teens is designed for tweens and teens who would like to learn, would like a refresher, or who are complete beginners to the fundamentals of horsemanship. No previous horse or horsemanship experience required.

This is a 3 part series that will be completely on the ground where we will be covering the fundamentals of horsemanship. This includes grooming, leading, stopping, backing, the 6 skills needed to be established on the ground before mounting, stretches, and more if time permits! Each session will build off of the previous session in order to cover all of the material safely and to build a relationship and partnership with the horses. We will be working with the horses at Solid Ground.

This series will take place on three Saturdays in February 2019. These Saturdays will be February 2nd, 9th, and 16th, from 2:00pm to 5:00pm at Solid Ground (10 Elizabeth Lane) in Scarborough, Maine. In case of a bad storm and a session has to be canceled, there be a rain/snow date on Saturday, February 23rd from 2:00pm to 5:00pm. Each of the 3 sessions will be 3 hours long and include snacks and water. At Solid Ground, we don’t have to worry about it getting dark early because our arena and barn area is completely light up with lights so we can work with the horses under the lights!

The last half hour of the thirds session of this series will include time to roast marshmallows and make s’mores around a camp fire! Marshmallows and s’mores ingredients will be provided.

This series, Fundamentals of Horsemanship for Tweens and Teens, costs $120 per person (this cost is for the whole series/all 3 sessions) and must be paid at least 2 weeks prior (by January 19th) to the start of the series through Eventbrite and is non-refundable. A full payment of $120 is required to hold your spot. This series is limited to 6 attendees and requires 3 at a minimum to run it. A signed release form must be completely filled out by a parent/guardian either prior to or on the first day of the event at the start of the first session. Our release form can be found on our website, katebennetthorsemanship.com.
