A lecture on understanding the road to the future, in pursuit of sustainable development and becoming responsible citizens of tomorrow with David Miller and Emeritus Professor Frank Cunningham. This lecture aims to establish the fundamentals of the green economy while debunking the myths around it, to help us imagine our future. This lecture will include the following topics:
- How economic success can be partnered with environmental sustainability – that jobs through sustainability make good economic sense in both the private and public sectors.
- Examples of significant business opportunities that new technologies and “green” businesses are making in the world’s major cities – including right here in Canada.
- How solving the world’s environmental problems will create sustainable employment and build resilient cities that work for all.
About David Miller: David Miller was Mayor of Toronto from 2003 to 2010. Under his leadership, Toronto became widely admired internationally for its environmental leadership, economic strength and social integration. David is a leading advocate for the creation of sustainable urban economies. In addition to being a strong and forceful champion for the next generation of jobs through sustainability, David advises companies – and governments – on practical measures to make this happen. Currently David Miller is Counsel, International Business and Sustainability at Aird & Berlis LLP. In that role, he assists the firm in the development of its international clean tech and renewable energy practices.
About Frank Cunningham: Frank Cunningham is Emeritus Professor of Philosophy and Political Science at the University of Toronto. He is also a Senior Advisor at the Cities Centre, University of Toronto.
