Event description

Description

Birmingham Business Focus (BBF) invites you to a discussion on addressing the housing challenges in Birmingham and the West Midlands. Birmingham needs to build 80,000 new homes by 2031, of which about one-third should be affordable. The West Midlands Combined Authority has a target of building 215,000 homes in the region over the next 10 years.

The challenge is where and how can these many homes be built. Since the availability and affordability of quality housing is a key factor in attracting investments and talent, BBF has invited a panel of speakers to discuss the issue and possible solutions

The panel speakers are:

  • Andy Street, Mayor of the West Midlands Combined Authority
  • Marcus Hawley, Director, Blackswan Property
  • Beverley Nielsen, Director, Institute for Design & Economic Acceleration, Birmingham City University
  • Glenn Howells, Director, Glen Howells Architects
  • Mike Leonard, CEO, Building Alliance CIC
  • David Higgins, Professor of Real Estate, Birmingham City University

The Programme

  • 5.00 pm - Registration
  • 5.30 pm - Welcome by Chair of Birmingham Business Focus
  • 5.35 pm - Speakers
  • 6.30 pm - Open discussion
  • 7.30 pm - Networking and Light Refreshment

The open discussion will be moderated by Neil Maybury, the Chair of Birmingham Business Focus.

The event is kindly hosted by the Institute for Design & Economic Acceleration, Birmingham City University
