Event description

Description

What's Fuckup Nights?

Failure is a part of any success story, but we don't talk about it enough. We've all been to plenty of events where people tell you how they hacked, hustled, and created their success, but very few where someone gets up and says "I totally messed up, and this is what you can learn from it."

Fuckup Nights is a global speaker series where stories of failed businesses and projects are told, questioned and celebrated. Each speaker is given 7 minutes and is able to use 10 images. After each speaker, there’s a Q&A session, as well as time for mingling and drinks!

On March 15th, Fuckup Nights Toronto will be celebrating 1 year of fuckups, 9 successful events, 36 brave speakers, and a community of Fuckuppers

Here's what we have in store:

  • 3-4 high profile speakers

  • A large concert hall style venue

  • 500+ attendees

  • Great food and drinks

  • A birthday party!

Speakers:

Sascha Darius Mojtahedi

CEO, Bunz Trading Zone

Sascha will be sharing a major failure story that happened at Bunz. When the beloved Canadian app went through a big platform redesign, the community of over 500k users quickly turned against the startup and dropped off like flies. Tons of lost money, disappointed investors, a hit on team dynamic...you name it, it ALL went wrong. How did the team turn things around? How do they approach risk and the possibility of failure now? Join us on March 15th to find out.

Prior to Bunz, Sascha spent eleven years at the intersection of finance and technology. He's disciplined in strategy, startups, and operations, with a dash of creative in there. Learn more about Sascha here.

Khallil Mangalji

Co-Founder & CTO at Fiix, Y Combinator W17, X-Facebook, X-Apple

Khallil Mangalji

Khallil will be taking us through his entrepreneurial journey, which is exhilarating and full of incredible highs and lows. Starting Fiix was a result of multiple fuckups (before Fiix, Khallil and his co-founders tried a few other businesses such as an AirBnb for weddings). Fiix is a winner, raising $1.5m and getting accepted into Y Combinator, but it wasn't without a few fuckups and a bankruptcy along the way. While getting the startup off the ground, Khallil beat cancer thrice, making him stronger as an individual and entrepreneur.

Prior to Fixx, Khallil was a software and frontend Engineer at Facebook and Apple. Learn more about Khallil here.

Stay tuned for more speakers!
