Description

What is front-end development exactly?

From UX/UI principles to strong foundations on HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, Turing's front-end program provides the tools to build desktop, mobile and web apps.

Interested to try? Then join us for our specific front-end introductory workshop for individuals to learn, explore and apply fundamental design concepts over two evenings. This is an easy, and fun, opportunity to expose you to the concepts.

Schedule:

  • Tuesday February 12th: 6-9 pm

  • Wednesday February 13th: 6-9 pm

Many of our Turing students are already professionals and working in a career track for years. It's never too late to pursue your dreams and our evening Try Coding workshops allow a good option for your work and/or personal schedule.

Expectations

In two evenings, you'll learn the basics of front-end engineering. We'll cover HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.

You'll learn how to create, style, and add interactivity to web pages. By the end of the second day, you'll build a game from scratch that runs in the browser.

Throughout the course, you'll also learn about our community and culture, mission and values.

A light dinner will be served.

Takeaways

You'll have an opportunity to show off work that you're proud of. You'll also receive helpful feedback on how to improve your code from our instructors. And all of this is absolutely no risk to you!

Who is Turing?

The Turing School of Software & Design is not your traditional post-secondary education provider. Instead, we are a unique seven month program that has both a backend and frontend track. We are a nonprofit and answer to no investors, instead we are 100% focused on student success. If you decide to pursue further training with Turing, by attending Try Coding, you receive $500 off the cost of your tuition if you're accepted.

FAQ

1. Do I need to bring a computer?

You will need a computer for this class. It does not matter what the operating system is as long as you are able to access the internet through a browser. However, if you do not have one, a limited number of loaner computers are available for the class. Contact ramiro@turing.io if you need to reserve a loaner.

2. Where do I park?

Paid parking is available in the area. Lots run between $8 and $15 per day, and are often less costly in the evenings.

3. Is the space accessible?

Yes. There is an elevator to our space and all classrooms are accessible.

4. I want to attend but I can't afford it. Are there any scholarships available?

We are offering scholarships on a limited basis for students with financial need. Please contact erin@turing.io for more information.

5. When should I arrive for the Try Turing Evenings?

Please arrive by 5:45 pm on Wednesday to register.

6. What if I'm interested in Back-End Engineering?

We have other courses that cover Back-End Engineering. You can check our upcoming courses here.

*Cancellation of events are dependent on a variety of factors including registrations, inclement weather and pressing needs that come up. If we do cancel your Try Coding workshop, you will be notified more than 24 hours in advance, credited back your registration payment and sent the schedule of other events.
