A roundtable discussion with former investment bankers and finance professionals who made the leap into the world of startups

Investment bankers are becoming a driving force behind many of today's successful startups. If you're tired of building excel models, editing powerpoints and running "scenarios" then join reformed investment bankers as they discuss their journey from Wall Street to Silicon Alley and learn how you too can make the leap. #WStoSA

Roundtable Participants:

Cynthia Van, Bipsync -

Cynthia is VP of Finance & Operations at Bipsync, a fast-growing, venture-funded SaaS startup with a research automation platform designed to help investment firms manage and optimize their research processes. Cynthia worked in finance for eight years at Citigroup, then Barclays before transitioning into fintech in early 2015, and she's currently a CFA charterholder. She has extensive experience in data analytics and financial modeling as well as account strategy and project management. Cynthia graduated from Harvard in 2006 with an undergraduate degree in Biochemical Sciences.

Dave Fan, Shibumi -

Dave left Wall Street for Silicon Alley in 2015 and has gained experience as both an operator and investor. He currently leads sales and business development at Shibumi, a enterprise cloud software startup, and also serves as a Venture Partner at NextGen Venture Partners. Previously, he managed strategic partnerships with health systems around the country at Zocdoc. Dave began his career at Deutsche Bank, where he held positions in investment banking, capital markets, and corporate strategy. He is a proud graduate of Brown University. 

Katie Glass, TripleLift - 

Katie is the Vice President of Partnerships at TripleLift, the largest native ad exchange. With a focus on product innovation and revenue, Katie leads direction on strategic partnerships that enhance the ease and value in the native marketplace.  Prior to TripleLift, Katie was the Director of East Coast Demand at PubMatic, where she worked with the industry's top programmatic DSPs, DMPs, and ATDs. Her first career endeavor began in Finance at Deutsche Bank as an associate of Technology, Media, and Telecom specialist. Katie is an alumnus of Stephen M. Ross School of Business, University of Michigan. 


Moderator: Sameer Syed, Google

Sameer works in Strategic Partnerships at Google, where he is responsible for building, managing, and growing partnerships with Google's strategic digital media partners. Previously, Sameer worked in business development roles at Tremor Video and at ad tech startup, Genesis Media.  He began his career as an investment banking analyst at J.P. Morgan. Sameer is the organizer and founder of Wall Street to Silicon Alley.  He graduated from the University of Michigan.
