A roundtable discussion with former investment bankers who made the leap into the world of startups

Investment bankers are becoming a driving force behind many of today's successful startups. If you're tired of building excel models, editing powerpoints and running "scenarios" then join four reformed investment bankers as they discuss their journey from Wall Street to Silicon Alley and learn how you too can make the leap.

Roundtable participants:

Wes Haydon, Selvera -
Wes is President and Co-Founder of Selvera, a virtual weight management program for consumers and employers.  Prior to Selvera, Wes was a member of the investor teams at Harvest Partners and Great Hill Partners where he served as an investor and manager in the consumer, retail, healthcare and business services markets. Wes began his career at J.P. Morgan in the investment banking division.  He received a B.S. from Washington and Lee University.

Rachel Horowitz, Plated -
Rachel is the Director of Business Development for Plated, a a flexible weekly subscription that delivers all the preportioned ingredients you need to cook a chef-designed meal from scratch at home.  Prior to joining Plated, Rachel was a founding partner at Birch Grove Capital, a $1b multi-strategy hedge fund where she focused on  investments in the consumer, retail, restaurant & F&B spaces.  Rachel began her career at Stone Tower Capital,  where she invested in distressed debt. Rachel received an MBA from Harvard Business School and a BA from the University of Pennsylvania.

Michael Kopko, Oscar -
Michael is Head of Business Development at Oscar Health Insurance. Previously, he served the CEO at Bridgewater Associates for four years. In 2009, he successfully sold DormAid & GradeFund, companies he founded while in college. Michael graduated from Harvard College with an honor's degree in economics and an MBA at Columbia University's Graduate School of Business where he received the Feldberg Fellowship. 

Avery Roth, The Startup Consulting Group -
Avery is the CEO and Founder of The Startup Consulting Group, a strategy consulting firm focused on startups that offers expertise across strategy, marketing, finance, sales and operations. Prior to founding SCG, she worked in the hedge fund industry for 12 years in roles as advisor and investor at firms including Deutsche Bank, Lehman Brothers, UBS and Claritas Investments. Avery graduated from Colby College with a B.A in International Business.

Moderator: Sameer Syed, Tremor Video -
Sameer is Director of Corporate and Business Development at Tremor Video, an ad tech platform for video advertising.  Previously, Sameer was at ad tech startup, Genesis Media, where he was responsible for business development and partnerships.   He began his career as an investment banking analyst at J.P. Morgan and also spent a year in JPM's internal consulting program. Sameer is the organizer and founder of the “Wall Street to Silicon Alley” quarterly roundtable. He received a B.A. in Economics from the University of Michigan.
