Event description

Description

As elections loom in Indonesia, millennials have made it to the mainstream. About 45 per cent of Indonesia’s 187 million voters at 2019 elections will be aged between 17 and 36. Political parties are therefore working hard to appeal to younger voters, especially online or through social media. Are millenials engaged? Do the interests of millennials differ to older generations? What do young people today expect from their political leaders? This Big Ideas seminar will hear from a panel of experts from academia, the media and politics and explore how engaged millennials are in the political process.

Moderator: Amy Keough, Australian Embassy Jakarta

Panel members:

  • Dr Ross Tapsell, The Australian National University

  • Uni Lubis, IDN Times

  • Tsamara Amany, Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI)

  • Faldo Maldini, National Mandate Party (PAN)
