Hosted by NYC Emergency Management’s Citizen Corps program, the Access and Functional Needs Symposium is a free event that aims to strengthen partnerships around emergency planning for people with disabilities and build awareness of emergency resources.
Audience: We invite local leaders, caregivers, service providers and people representing organizational planning efforts to discuss emergency preparedness challenges, ask questions and share experiences and best practices.
Following a morning plenary session including a Risk Communications Panel, participants will have the opportunity to attend two breakout sessions on the below topics:
Caregivers in Action
How can caregivers incorporate preparedness into hectic New York City schedules? How can we use the emergency preparedness resources we already have with those we are caring for?
How can public messaging be tailored to the specific needs of different communities? Use the tips discussed during the Risk Communications Panel and practice adapting messages to effectively communicate information to people with varying needs.
Learn about various community planning efforts around local emergency check-in initiatives and join the discussion. How are the needs of people with disabilities integrated in community based emergency planning?
Light refreshments will be provided. Please leave time to go through security and bring a form of identification. Foreign passports are accepted.
