Event description

Description

Please join us for dinner, entertainment, and a silent auction on November 9th to generate start-up funds for the Mesopotamia Community of Utah. You will be able to learn about and engage with the Iraqi refugee community in Utah and enjoy middle eastern cuisine.

As refugees come to the United States it is helpful if they can gather according to their culture to help each other integrate into American society and navigate life in the U.S. The Iraqi community in Utah consists of approximately 10,000 individuals that, for the most part, arrived between 2005 and the present. They fled war and persecution; many experienced threats to their life for their employment with or support of the U.S. military and government in Iraq. The Iraqi community in Utah needs help funding their community center and programs. The community center will be a place where refugees can learn English, gain employment, learn about U.S. laws, study for the citizenship and driver's license tests, learn computer skills, participate in prevention programs (for youth), benefit from the food bank, obtain advocates for legal Issues, or participate in domestic violence training.

If you are unable to attend but would still like to support the Mesopotamia Community of Utah, please donate here.
