Description

“The existence of our people is in grave danger. We have resolved in multiple assemblies, congresses, and indigenous declarations that we don’t want extractive industry like oil exploitation in our territory.” -Gloria Ushigua lobbied the UN and international allies to reject oil operations on Sápara ancestral territory" ~Gloria Ushigua Santi

Urbana raised Maria Dorsey will be sharing her stories of Standing Rock and the work of the Sapara people in the Amazon, in the most biodiverse area in the world, tying together the relativity we share with people the world over fighting to protect the sacred.

Gloria Ushigua Santi, the focus of the evening's fundraising and discussion, is a woman's leader and coordinator of Ashinwaka, Sapara Women's Association. She has testified in front of the United Nations and most recently hand delivered a letter to the Chinese Consulate in San Francisco, outlining the demand by the Sapara people to cease and desist all plans for exploration and exploitation of their territory by Andes Petroleum and the Chinese oil interests that have been sold her peoples territory. She has been tirelessly fighting with and for her tribe's right to their territory, their right to clean water, air and land. I will share some stories about Gloria and the work she is doing every day. ALL donations received will be given to Gloria when Maria goes to visit her in December.

There will be prints for sale of multiple paintings by Maria. She is splitting the proceeds of each print ordered that night with Gloria Ushigua. (View at Maria Dorsey Art)

Fellowship and discussion to follow.

A very big loving thank you to Gloria Ushigua Santi for trusting others with her people's voice as well and to thec coordinators of this event.
