Synopsis

A 30-Year Pilgrimage Through the Golden Age of Anime.
Do you still remember them?
"Coach… I want to play basketball!" Mitsui Hisashi’s tearful plea, Rukawa Kaede’s swift drives, Sakuragi Hanamichi’s rebounds—the screams from courtside bleachers, comic books hidden beneath textbooks, the moment Until the World Ends crescendoed in the credits… Those were the crisp sounds of youth dunking its brightest memories.
The roar of Kamehameha waves, the golden glow of Goku transforming into a Super Saiyan, the oppressive aura of Piccolo Daimao… The nervous thrill of sneaking to watch TV after school outshone even the World Martial Arts Tournament itself!
Maruko-chan’s "blissful sprawl on tatami, staring at the ceiling"mirrored our own homework-dodging selves. Grandpa’s nonsensical wisdom, Sister’s sharp tongue, Hanawa’s"Hi Baby!"—those mundane, fragmented days we only later recognized as a lost utopia.
If childhood had a shape, it would be the rotund silhouette of a 4D pocket. Bamboo-copters, Anywhere Doors, Memory Bread… Each of Nobita’s failures and miracles taught us: even without Doraemon, life demands the courage to stay wide-eyed.
Here, you’ll reunite with legends: Beside Detective Conan’s tranquilizer watch lies the razor-sharp declaration"There’s only one truth!"—a fossil of the Heisei era’s most tenacious pursuit of justice. On Naruto’s jutsu scrolls, Uzumaki Naruto’s"I never go back on my word—that’s my ninja way!"bleeds through the parchment. In the quiet cosmos of Miyazaki’s worlds,"Don’t forget your name"scribbles faintly on No-Face’s mask from Spirited Away, while My Neighbor Totoro’s forest whispers"When we laugh loud enough, the scary things run away"in crayon-smeared starlight. On a corner of Astro Boy’s draft, Osamu Tezuka’s red-inked note"100,000 horsepower! Seven powers!"arcs alongside the cobalt silhouette of the boy robot mid-flight—etched as anime’s first cosmic triumph.
"From Sketch to Screen: JAPANESE ANIME MANUSCRIPT EXHIBITION"
Through 400+ rare manuscripts and cel animations, we resurrect those childhood afternoons spent glued to CRT screens. Faded pencil sketches on yellowing paper, scribbled revisions on storyboards, endlessly tweaked gaze details in character sheets… These weathered imprints of creation become keys to decoding our collective memory, transporting you to hand-drawn animation’s golden age.
Every cel is a fossil of its era—the scratch of pencil on acetate, pigment seeping into celluloid grain, even the worn sprocket holes along the edges preserve animators’ raw devotion. While digital precision streamlines creation today, these hand-drawn relics whisper with imperfect warmth: true magic lies not in flawlessness, but in the sparks where graphite meets dreams.
"From Sketch to Screen"is more than an art exhibit—it’s a cross-dimensional dialogue. As you trace the faint ghost lines left on draft paper, you might hear the satisfied sigh of an animator from thirty winters past, putting down their pencil in the small hours.
Embark now! Let these fragments of youth entombed in cels and manuscripts guide you back to your younger self—that wide-eyed soul who once clutched a TV remote, trembling at a single line of dialogue. Here, every pencil stroke marks time’s passage, every cel animation stands as a testament to undying passion.
