From Pollution, Art
Lecture and Hands-On Workshop for Adult Lifelong Learners at COSI
Wednesday, April 23, 2014 (6:30pm-10:00pm)
How can toxic pollution become art? Old coal mines in Southeastern Ohio, abandoned, but never sealed properly, leech sulfuric acid and iron into surrounding streams, killing the biological life in them.
Join John Sabraw, artist and Associate Professor of Art at the Ohio University School of Art and Design, to learn about his pioneering work to harvest Ohio's toxic coal sludge, transforming it into paint, and then, into art.
Enjoy a lecture by Sabraw, or stay afterward for a guided hands-on art workshop that will allow participants to create their own piece of art using Sabraw's paints. Workshop participants will be able to take their creations home.
Space is limited for both experiences.
Parking will be $5 payable by credit card only on the evening of the event.
Purchase either a ticket for the lecture, or for the combined lecture and hands-on workshop.
