The Geriatric Mental Health Alliance of New York
invites you to a special webinar on geriatric mental health entitled

From Patienthood to Personhood

presented by

 Susan Wehry, MD

Vermont Department of Disabilities, Aging and Independent Living

Cost: $25.00 per person

Older adults in long-term care settings can sometimes behave in ways that are challenging for caregivers to manage, and there is growing concern that providers are too quick to respond with antipsychotic medications. Dr. Wehry will present a different perspective: One where distressing behavior isn't a "symptom" but an expression of deep human needs that aren't being met. Join us to learn how addressing these needs can improve patients' health and quality of life.

This event takes place online. Instructions for joining this webinar will be e-mailed to you after you register.

For questions about this event, contact Greg Holzheimer at or (212) 614-5753.

Social Workers may apply for Continuing Education Credit (CEU) for this webinar. CEUs cost $25.

The Geriatric Mental Health Alliance of NY

The Mental Health Association of New York City established The Geriatric Mental Health Alliance in January 2004. The Alliance was formed to confront the mental health challenges of the elder boom and to promote critical changes in practice and policy.

The goal of The Alliance is to promote improved geriatric mental health practice by identifying best and innovative practices, identifying barriers to their use, developing policy proposals to overcome these barriers, and advocating for policy and practice changes. To this end, The Alliance sponsors consensus groups on topics related to geriatric mental health; a series of presentations on best practices with national experts; and numerous conferences. In addition, the Alliance provides technical assistance regarding service models and funding including how to optimize Medicare funding.
