From Neurobiologist to Research Geneticist

Daniel is a recovering neurobiologist. His research has focused on the regulation of gap junctions, neuron homeostasis, and applying machine learning to recapitulate cell identity from mRNA expression using Jonah crab (C. borealis) as a study system. After earning a BS in Biology from Truman State University and completing his PhD in Biological Sciences from the University of Missouri-Columbia, he moved to a Postdoc position at the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) where he uses Deep Learning to improve crop yield prediction across genotype, environment, and management combinations.
