Description

We are thrilled to have Mrs. Donna Steigleder, Director of Employee Relations and HR Pollicy Development for VCU Health, present and answer questions. We all know that reruitment, retention and termination are a never ending cycle. Come join your fellow early childhood leaders and gain access to an expert in the Human Resources field.

Mrs. Steigleder will provide detail on an array of areas including:

  • Equal Employment Opportunity Hiring Concerns - Job postings, interviewing, hiring decisions
  • Establishing an Employment Relationship - Background checks, competency, orientation/probation, establishing job expectations
  • Performance Management - Safety (Worker's Comp/OSHA), Time and Attendance (FMLA), Job Performance (ADA), Coaching and Counseling, Work/Life Balance (Social Media)
  • Termination - EEO Charges, Unemployment, Final Checks, References

These are all areas of daily reality for early childhood leaders. We are in a role that requires you to wear many hats and we all want to be successful in leading our staff. In this 3 hour training you will have access to information, best practices, decades of experience and the ability to ask questions. Do not miss this opportunity!

Mrs. Steigleder has a phenomenal background. She joined Virginia Commonwealth University Human Resources in 1991 as an Employee Relations Counselor, just prior to MCV Hospitals becoming a state authority in 1997. She was instrumental in creating and implementing the human resource policies during the transition to the authority once the decision was made that MCV employees needed to come out from under the Code of Virginia governance in order to have greater market competitiveness. That was twenty years ago and she has remained with the Department of Human Resources as it moved from MCV Hospitals to MCV Hospitals Authority to VCU Health System Authority. In 1997, as an Employee Relations Counselor she provided consultation to approximately 3,000 managers and employees on the MCV campus. Twenty years later as Director of Employee Relations for VCU Health System, she oversees a department of four Employee Relations Specialist and is responsible for policy development and implementation, Affirmative Action, Equal Employment Opportunity oversight, Threat Management, Regulatory Compliance, Dispute Resolution, ADA Accommodation Requests, Disaster Preparedness for HR standards, and “other duties as assigned” as well as providing consultative services to approximately 13,000 managers and employees in 66 separate work locations among four separate companies.

Donna's first career was as a registered nurse. She received her BSN at MCV Hospitals, so it was natural for her to eventually come back there to finish out her career, even if not as a nurse. She is married to an author of sci-fi/fantasy books who is totally disabled due to MS. The have 3 married children and 3 grandchildren of their own and 1 adopted child with 3 adopted grandchildren. Of her six grandchildren (3 girls/3 boys ages 12, 9, 8, 5, 1, 5 months) 3 are special needs with multiple morbidities.
