From Gun Violence to Comedy: Leveraging Culture to Drive Social Change
Erika Soto Lamb, VP, Social Impact Strategy, Comedy Central
6:00 - 6:30 PM Nibbles and Networking
6:30 - 8:00 PM Presentation and Q&A
Join the MS in Strategic Communication Program at Columbia University’s School of Professional Studies for a conversation about how culture strategies are part of the communications playbook for social change. At a time when traditional tactics like press releases, research reports, polls and infographics have declining impact, culture – from comedy to storytelling – is the key to meeting people where they are, changing perspectives and driving people to action on our most pressing social issues. We'll talk about what works, what doesn't and how culture can be leveraged to change the world.
About the Speaker:
Erika Soto Lamb drives change on the toughest cultural and political issues via powerful and persuasive campaigns. Erika is the founding head of social impact strategy at Comedy Central, Paramount Network and TV Land. She was previously the founding chief communications officer at Everytown for Gun Safety, where, in the wake of the Sandy Hook shooting, she helped build the largest gun violence prevention organization in the country that includes Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America and Michael Bloomberg-founded Mayors Against Illegal Guns.
