From Care to Cure: 2017 MGH FTD Unit Education Event

The MGH Frontotemporal Disorders (FTD) Unit is proud to present From Care to Cure, our annual education day for patients, families, caregivers and elder care professionals to come together and learn more about the spectrum of Frontotemporal Disorders. The day will feature presentations from FTD Unit staff and clinicians as well as our community partners. An overview of FTD, an update of scientific advances and afternoon workshops for the practical management of FTD will create an informative day where attendees can learn, connect, and build resiliency together.
Conference Morning Presentation Topics Include:
- An Overview of Frontotemporal Disorders
- Understanding Primary Progressive Aphasia
- Genetics and FTD
- Current Research and Scientific Advances in FTD
- Keynote Address: Making Your Neurons Dance: Music and Movement for Cognitive Health
Conference Workshop Topics Include:
- Navigating Relationships with Care Facilities
- Communicating Through FTD
- Genetics and FTD: A Question and Answer Session
- ALS and FTD: Understanding a Dual Diagnosis
- An Intro to Behavior Management and FTD
- Patient-Centered Workshop: Fish or Flamenco: What's Good for Cognitive Health?
Registration and resource tables will open at 9:00, conference begins at 10:00. Breakfast and lunch will be provided.
What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event?
The Westin Hotel has a partking garage for conference participants. Parking is free of charge.
Are patients welcome to attend From Care to Cure?
Yes, patients are welcome to attend and there will be a special patient-centered workshop where patients may ask questions and talk with FTD Unit clinicians in a small group environment. Each family should decide on an individual basis if attending From Care to Cure will be the right thing for thier loved one. Some patients with FTD do not have worry about thier condition and may not have an interest in the material presented. Other patients may be concerned about the information presented and find it overwhelming to process. If you have questions, concerns or want to talk about whether or not your loved one should attend, please contact Katie Brandt at Katherine.Brandt@mgh.harvard.edu.
