Marking the momentum on ocean climate action and setting the agenda for progress at COP26.
About this event
The Ocean-Climate Ambition Summit has received an overwhelming level of interest, so if you have missed the registration cut off of 1 p.m. EST on Wednesday, January 27, we encourage you to watch the livestream of the event on Ocean Conservancy's Youtube page by clicking here.
26 – 27 January 2021
Ocean-climate impacts are damaging communities and ecosystems worldwide. Our need for a healthy ocean is just one of the reasons countries must create a carbon-free and climate-resilient future. Sustainable ocean-based climate solutions, from scaling up offshore renewable energy to creating marine-protected areas, can help support this transition.
There is growing awareness of the links between the ocean and climate change. In December 2019, Parties to the U.N. Framework Convention on Climate Change adopted a first-of-its-kind decision that mandated a dialogue “on the ocean and climate change to consider how to strengthen mitigation and adaptation action.” That dialogue is taking place 02 & 03 December 2020.
As the next U.N. climate summit (COP26) has been postponed until November 2021, it is essential to maintain the momentum on climate and ocean action. The Ocean-Climate Ambition Summit will be an opportunity to take stock of the ocean-climate dialogue and next steps to advance ocean-climate issues through COP26.
