Hi friends and family,
Friends of Haiti Canada is holding a fundraising event on January 18th to help the people of Haiti at Double Zero Pizza. Tickets are $25 but of course extra donations are accepted. We will have a silent auction with many great items, Double Zero will also be contributing to this great cause.
If you can help us with a prize for our silent auction that would be appreciated. Some idea are hockey tickets, gift certificates, airline tickets, or other items like this. please email David.firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com
Haiti, the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere continues to suffer from the effects of the powerful earthquake which struck in 2010. Today many Haitians are living in extreme poverty with little or no way to help themselves. This month Hurricane Matthew devastated Haiti wiping out houses and crops and killing 1000 people. We have been sending money down over the last month for emergency food and shelter to help the people. With their crops and many homes destroyed they will need significant help over the next year. Here is a video of them taking food over the river last week to a rural village.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GkYdtif9MbU
Since 2012, Friends of Haiti Canada has had the privilege of being involved in humanitarian work in Haiti. We are a group of Canadians who want to help our friends in Haiti with education, healthcare, sports, housing, entrepreneurship, and dreams. The needs are vast and the situation is desperate. We believe the way to help Haitians help themselves is by empowerment through education, sports, and technology. http://www.friendsofhaiticanada.com/ As well please see our video on the work we do in Haiti. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PMDgW_q8shI
About 98% of the money we raise goes directly to help the people of Haiti. About 1% went to bank transfer fees and the other 1% paid for a helper in Haiti as his job. When our team travels to Haiti we pay 100% of all our costs for flights, hotels, food, and transportation.
Only 50% of the children in Haiti attend school because their families do not have money to pay tuition or buy them school supplies and a uniform. Children want to go to school and they want to learn but sadly, many are unable to go to school. Tuition and supplies range from $30 per year for primary school, up to $100-$200 per year for high school. A year of university costs between $300 - $400.
Also many of the children go to school hungry and that makes it hard for them to learn. For $35 a day we feed 105 children in Marbial their daily meal. We really need help and support to keep this program going.
And a thank you from Maxeau and the people of Haiti!https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U7K2hXAdI4U
Thank you and we look forward to seeing you all there on January 18th.
