Event description

Description

"METAMORPHOSIS" is highlighted by the self-described “invigorating and combustible live performances” of Avery*Sunshine, whose mission is simply: “to inspire and encourage people to pursue whatever their life calling is and to operate at the highest level of themselves through that calling – ultimately to #SHINE.” Avery*Sunshine is headlining the stage with special guest Kevin Whalum accompanied by Toca Live!

The “butterfly effect” is the concept that small causes can have large effects. The Butterfly Effect, Inc. seeks to cultivate social consciousness and awareness encompassing the issue of unjust and disproportionate mass incarceration particularly of women of color, and the helplessness experienced during incarceration, up to and including the re-entry process, in an effort to provide assistance to formerly incarcerated and incarcerated women, their children and families. It is The Butterfly Effect’s mission to actively support and provide assistance to women, emphasizing healing as they grow through the re-entry process, re-establishing life, and re-learning what it means to be a free citizen, by offering life skills, life coaching, educational resources, scholarships, job readiness training, the ministry of presence, and more.

Metamorphosis is a profound change in form from one stage to the next in the life history of an organism, and is what caterpillars do to become butterflies.

This Sunday FunDay Party with a Purpose begins with
“The Re-Entry Experience,” highlighting nonprofit organizations, as well as 2nd Chance Act employers/businesses, making a concerted effort to reduce the recidivism rate. Because incarcerated persons are misguided about life and the “assistance” made available to them upon release, we are passionate about organizations that actually do the work of assisting returning citizens and making the return home a much less stressful process. “The Re-Entry Experience” also includes a panel discussion with formerly incarcerated women and representatives from nonprofit organizations and government agencies.
