Friend Me: Ethics and the Use of Social Media


A 3 CEU seminar presented by Peggy Keilholz, LCSW, a Clinical Fellow of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy, past President of the St. Louis Association for Marriage and Family Therapy and two-time Ethics Chair for the Missouri Association for Marriage and Family Therapy.


The use of social media raises ethical dilemmas related to confidentiality and dual relationships. This workshop uses clinical vignettes to explore the issues and develop a process for resolving ethical dilemmas in this ever-changing area.


Participants will be able to:

1. Identify potential ethical dilemmas related to use of social media

2. Apply the most recent standards and Codes of Ethics to ethical dilemmas involving the use of social media

3. Develop a process for resolving ethical dilemmas

Presenter

PEGGY J. KEILHOLZ

Peggy Keilholz is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and a Clinical Fellow of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy. She is a past President of the St. Louis Association for Marriage and Family Therapy and has served two times as the Ethics Chair for the Missouri Association for Marriage and Family Therapy.

Her academic career includes a Bachelor of Arts degree, Fontbonne College (1968), a Master of Arts in Religion and Education, St. Louis University (1977), and a Master of Social Work from the Brown School of Social Work, Washington University, St. Louis (1984). She completed her family therapy training at Provident Counseling and was an AAMFT Approved Supervisor from 1994 to 2014.

Peggy’s social work career includes service with Catholic Social Services, Diocese of Belleville, IL, Catholic Family Services in St. Louis, Provident Counseling (now Provident, Inc.), and private practice.

From 2000-2012 Peggy served as an Adjunct Professor of family therapy at the Brown School of Social Work, Washington University, St. Louis. Twice (2004 and 2005) she received the Excellence in Teaching Award from the Brown School. She is a regular workshop leader in the Brown School’s Professional Development Program, presenting various topics on social work ethics.

Peggy serves as the secretary for the Affton Community Improvement Association, a faith-based initiative of Seven Holy Founders and St. John Paul II Parishes. She volunteers at Let’s Start, a support process for women transitioning from prison and recovering from addiction. She is a member of the Missouri Catholic Conference Citizens’ Network.

In 2016 she joined the ministry team at King’s House Retreat and Renewal Center in Belleville, IL where she is a co-presenter for retreats.
