Event description

Description

What is it?

This workshop will train participants on the use of the Delaware Rapid Assessment Procedure and Value Added Method for assessing freshwater non-tidal wetlands, and illustrate the use of the data to support other programs.

The Delaware Rapid Assessment Procedure (DERAP) assesses the general condition of wetlands based on the presence and intensity of stressors related to habitat, hydrology, and buffer features at a wetland site. The State of Delaware uses DERAP in conjunction with DECAP (not covered in this workshop) to assess and report on the condition of wetlands by watershed and to assess status and trends over time. DERAP stressor data is also used to identify the types of impacts to wetlands which is then applied to develop wetland restoration and protection priorities.

The Value Added Method is used in conjunction with DERAP, and creates a score based on the opportunity of the wetland to provide a function and the local significance of that function.

What Will Be Covered?

The morning classroom portion will provide a comprehensive look into how to perform DERAP and Value Added methods, and the utility of it. The afternoon session will provide hands-on experience in the computer GIS prep work and a field visit to perform the DERAP/Value Added procedure.

Who Should Attend?

Managers, scientists, and consultants who encounter wetlands in their decision-making or field work.

Things to Know
