Freedom Is an Inside Job
with Zainab Salbi and Desert Rose

Part of the Revolutionary Love: The Politics of Faith Speaker Series

Zainab Salbi, founder of Women for Women International, will share reflections from her new book, Freedom Is an Inside Job. She will be joined by her beloved friends and musicians, Desert Rose. Visiting from South Africa, Desert Rose will perform ancient chants in the Sufi tradition.

Salbi’s new book explores her journey to wholeness and a new way of activism — “As long as we are conflicted within, we will continue to live in conflict without. If we want to change the world, we must begin with ourselves,” Zainab Salbi writes.

In these contentious times, Salbi believes we all need the sacred music of Desert Rose. “They are from South Africa and so they know division. But their music and chanting connects us to something we all need now: unity and love. I am a Muslim. And my religion has been hijacked by fundamentalists. But Desert Rose’s powerful music takes us all to the sacredness in every religion and every tradition. You feel this peace through their music,” Salbi said.

Freedom Is an Inside Job will be available for purchase after the event.
