Description

Come and join the adventure! This is a co-ed endurance hike to raise funds for the non-profit organization Rescue:Freedom International. Rescue Freedom exists to empower the rescue and restoration of women and children suffering in sexual slavery. With partner sites in five countries, they have touched the lives of over 48,000 women and children.

Come into the wild and embark on a journey of personal growth all while joining the fight against human trafficking! The goal for this endurance hike is to push personal limits, step out of our comfort zone and conquer one of the most breathtaking, iconic, 21-mile hikes in the Sawtooths while generating funds and awareness for the organization Rescue Freedom. If you would like to learn more, visit them at www.rescuefreedom.org.

Sawtooth Mountains 2020 Freedom Hike: Alice Lake, Toxaway Lake (with possible Snowyside Peak) and Pettit Lake Loop

This is a loop hike with a possible side excursion up Snowyside Peak that will be around 21 miles and have an accumulative elevation gain of around 4000 feet. We will be hiking along numerous alpine lakes, crossing clear alpine creeks and lake outlets, which will require extra water shoes and, depending on the winter, could have higher waters. There will be meadows of wildflowers and waterfalls with 10,000-foot peaks towering over it all. This trail is through high alpine conditions and will have sections that are quite high, sections of switchbacks, boulders, downed trees, rocky talus, scree, and possible snowfields. This hike presents aquamarine waters and some of the most iconic views in the Sawtooth Mountains.

Event Agenda: Wednesday, August 12th - Friday, August 14th

  • Wednesday: Arrive at Stanley, Idaho to the group lodging facility to register at 4:00 pm
  • Wednesday: 5:30 group dinner (bring your own money for this dinner)
  • Thursday: (hike start times to be announced later but they will be early) Groups will be separated by an hour
  • Thursday: Evening Celebration Dinner at Group lodging and post-hike hospitality
  • Friday: checkout by 11:00 am and for those that want to we can head to local hot springs or river floating before heading back to town

Hike Capacity: There will be 2 groups of 10 hikers plus 2 experienced leads. These leads are not paid guides but rather experienced and knowlegeable hikers who are committed to the cause of Rescue: Freedom and coming alongside those who want to tackle this challenge. These groups will not be hiking together and will have start times an hour apart. If you are hoping to hike with people you know, please let the hike facilitator know and we will do our best to accommodate but we make no guarantees.

Lodging:

Lodging will be provided as shared accommodations at condo townhomes on the same property for the nights of August 12th and 13th. Any further accommodations are your responsibility. Stanley is a remote town and lodging is booked up and extremely limited in the summer. While you may choose to camp or lodge elsewhere we do not refund this portion as all lodging is tied to the tickets in order to have this for every hiker registered. This will be shared housing and you may be sharing a room with someone you just met. These accommodations have rooms with queen beds, twin beds and pull out queen sofa beds. There are full kitchens and laundry available too. If you sign up with your partner we will do our best to accommodate you together. For those traveling from farther locations note that Stanley is about 3 hours (on mountain roads) from the nearest airport in Boise, Idaho so plan to fly in early.
