Event description

Description

Please join Texas Fair Defense Project, Texas Appleseed and Texas Civil Rights Project for an evening of community and conversation with Alec Karakatsanis, Executive Director of Civil Rights Corps and author of the new book, Usual Cruelty: The Complicity of Lawyers in the Criminal Injustice System. Alec will discuss his book, the role of lawyers in mass incarceration and what Travis County can do to be a leader in the national bail reform movement.

The event will be kicked off with a poetry reading by Austin's own Jorge Renaud, Regional Director of Policy and Advocacy for the Southwest with LatinoJustice and Civil Rights Corps' 2020 Poet-in-Residence.

Copies of Alec's book will be available for sale and signing.

Come for the poetry and book talk, and stay for the food, company and margaritas!
