International Dyslexia Association, Maryland Branch (IDAMD) presents

Storytelling and Executive Functions - Written Expression for Dyslexic Students

with Carolee Dean, M.S., CCC-SLP and Paula Moraine, M.Ed.

For Parents, Teachers, Speech-Language Pathologists, Psychologists, and more!

Thursday, April 27, 2017, 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Baltimore Lab School, 2220 Saint Paul Street, Baltimore, MD 21218

This engaging workshop provides an overview of how written expression for dyslexic students may be strengthened through the framework of the story analysis approach of The Secret Language of Stories (SLOS). This approach links Executive Function skills to the various stages of the writing process, enhances language processing skills and comprehension for students of all ages.

The Secret Language of Stories (SLOS) provides a dynamic, interactive, multisensory framework for students of all ages to be able to engage in the storytelling process. Understanding narrative structure, or story grammar, is not only integral to reading comprehension, but can also be used to address a wide variety of executive function skills. Students of all ability levels benefit from this multi-sensory approach and it is used to address learning objectives for students with dyslexia, ADHD, and Executive Dysfunction.

Differentiated instruction techniques based on the IDA Knowledge and Practice Standards are used within the narrative framework to address objectives for students with a wide variety of writing abilities.

Continuing Education Credits will be available (details to follow).
