We are excited to be having a FREE Womens Self Defense Class to anyone interested. We will cover a lot of the material, particularly pressure points and joint locks, require direct hands-on instruction from the instructor in order to find the correct area and ensure that correct technique is being used. Michael is planning his curricula now for an on-going class. He is thinking that we will start with some basic stretches to get lose, work through some contact drills to get a little sweat going, and finish with one or two pressure points. The first class he plans to focus on blocking techniques and correct striking with punches, finger strikes, elbows, shins and knees. As we get a consistent class going he can devote entire classes to chokes (preventing, escaping, and applying), throws, dislocations, and maybe even work some basic edges or blunt weapon (knife and short stick primarily) familiarity into later classes.
As a Domestic Violence survivor myself this is much needed in York. To my knowledge there are other places that offer this however none are for free. I want women to be able to leave their houses without having to always look over their shoulders. We need to rebuild confidence in women.
