Event description

Description

Do you want OTHER people to eat fresh produce?  Then help us - each Wednesday late afternoon - bag vegetables (and some fruit) for the neighbors in Mission Hill.  Usually there are also freshly-baked loaves of bread, also (baked that morning - Jessica's Bakery).

It's an assembly line, then take home a bag (or two) of produce for yourself.

Bring your business cards, smartphone, or notepad, and prepare to exchange contact info with other volunteers you like.  Volunteers come from several sources (not merely from this meetup or others: Craigslist, Pharmacy School, School of Public Health, etc.)

VOLUNTEERING for $2/bag of produce in Mission Hill
Tobin Community Center, 1481 Tremont Street, Mission Hill, Roxbury
(between Brigham Circle and Roxbury Crossing T stops)
Boston, MA 02120 - <2 blocks from Orange Line T
Each Wednesday, from 4:00 - 6:00 pm (indoors in bad weather)

We will be VOLUNTEERING for the weekly Wednesday late afternoon $2/bag of produce in Mission Hill.

When you volunteer,
YOU will ALSO TAKE HOME one or two of those "$2 bags"!
We've had 55 volunteers, and we've had 7.  Workloads vary!

Fair Foods provides a 20-22 bag of produce for the Mission Hill neighbors so they can eat like me - on produce. The neighbors only need to pay' $2 for the bag.

Volunteers unload the truck, set up 3 banquet tables, set up the food in order of desntiy (potatoes on bottom - tomatoes and bananas and berries and kale on top), then fill each bag (and 'stack' them upright by one another - for the 'paying neighbors' to pick up (for $2).

We arrive around 4 pm (maybe as late as 4:30 pm) and work until 6 pm (can leave as early as 5:30 pm if we've finished).

In FRONT of the Tobin Community Center, 1481 Tremont Street (between the Brigham Circle T stop - GREEN E-Line - and the Roxbury Crossing Orange Line T stop - <2 blocks away), behind the long wrought iron fence.

Wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move flexibly and to actually work, lifting heavy bags of food.

Question:
This sounds like a great deal, but is it meant for those in need, as is the case with food banks?

Answer:
No qualifications - no limitsWe have way more than AMPLE food for any intended audiences, and the operation is bettered if MORE people take the food than if FEWER take the food.

Therefore, there is NO QUALIFICATION (no test of need) and no limit to how much you can cart off (just pay $2/bag and $1/loaf of bread).  That's why I post it on a meetup like this.
Make us busy - very busy.
