Description

Sometimes first aid isn't a bandage or CPR. Sometimes, first aid is YOU.

Join us for a FREE TWO DAY Training on Dec. 3 & 4 from 12:00pm - 4:30pm

YOUTH Mental Health First Aid is a public education program for adults who work with youth (ages 12-18) that introduces risk factors and warning signs of mental health problems, comparing them to signs of typical adolescent development. The course also builds understanding of their impact and overviews appropriate supports. This 8-hour course uses role-playing and simulations to demonstrate how to offer initial help in a mental health crisis and connect young people to the appropriate professional, peer, social and self-help care. The program is ideal for education professionals and community leaders who work with youth, as well as for parents and family caregivers.

Like CPR, Youth Mental Health First Aid prepares participants to interact with a young person in crisis and connect the person with help. Youth Mental Health First Aiders do not diagnose or provide any counseling or therapy. Instead, the program offers concrete tools and answers key questions like, “What do I do?” and, “Where can someone find help?” Certified Youth Mental Health First Aid instructors provide a list of community and national resources, support groups and online tools for mental health and addictions treatment and support.

All trainees must complete both 4.5 hour days of training to receive the 3-year certification.

Youth Mental Health First Aid is included in the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s National Registry of Evidence-based Programs and Practices (NREPP).

This community course is offered at NO COST to a limited number of participants but registration is REQUIRED. Often, there is a waiting list. For this reason, we require is an email response to our RSVP email sent one week prior to the training date. Please check your spam folders for emails from NAMI Delaware. If you do not reply to the email RSVP, your place in this course will not be guaranteed.
