About this event
Billions of gallons of wastewater are treated every year at two reclamation facilities that serve 1.1 million people in 28 communities.
This is your chance to tour the Jones Island Water Reclamation Facility that is located on the shores of Lake Michigan in the City of Milwaukee. This is where Milorganite® - a fertilizer trusted by experts since 1926- is produced. The facility is on the National Register of Historic Places, designated a National Historic Civil Engineering Landmark by the American Society of Civil Engineers, owned and governed by the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District, and operated and maintained by Veolia Water Milwaukee.
Please note:
- This is a walking tour. Our plant is not ADA accessible or safe for individuals with sensitivity to loud noises.
- There is no charge for the tour.
- No children under 10 are permitted.
- ALL attendees must wear long pants and closed-toed shoes for safety. NO EXCEPTIONS!
- Because we operate around the clock, our facilities are constantly undergoing routine maintenance. Therefore, we cannot guarantee that you will be able to tour the Milorganite® building and we will not know until the day of your scheduled tour.
