Free the Elephants International Conference & Film Festival will provide a unique opportunity to collectively focus on the plight of captive elephants.

This action-oriented event will bring together a broad range of people to consider all aspects of elephant exploitation and suffering.

Attendees will be provided the chance to network, create alliances and coalitions, and establish a direction for ending the world-wide captivity of elephants.

The two-and-a-half day conference includes:

- Information and inspiration from speakers who are working on the front lines of elephant protection and rescue with national and international organizations

- Opportunities to network and form coalitions and alliances with other elephant advocates

- Film screenings

- A presentation of photos by a well-known elephant photographer

- Participation in the creation of a comprehensive, strategic plan and timeline for ending the world-wide captivity of elephants

- Continental breakfast, coffee, and lunch Friday and Saturday; and Continental breakfast on Sunday. (All vegan)

For the special conference rate ( $94 per night plus 15.3% tax for a double/double, and $134 plus tax for the comfort double/double, please call the University Place Hotel for reservations (503-221-0140 or 1-866-845-4647), and ask for the "Free the Oregon Zoo Elephants Conference" Room Block. This rate is good 3 days before and after the conference dates. There is a $10 per person fee plus tax, for additional 3rd and 4th adults in the room. This rate will be available until 3/26/2018 or until the group rate is sold out.

Please note that self parking is $15 a night, and hot breakfast / wifi is included in the room rate.

--------REFUND POLICY----------

If you are unable to attend, we will refund your registration fee in full if your cancellation notice is received by conference@freeoregonzooelephants.org prior to February 1, 2018. After that time, we cannot provide any refunds. There are many expenses involved in producing a conference of this magnitude and your registration fee makes it possible for us to provide this wonderful opportunity to present information and collaborate with you to create a better future for captive elephants. Thank you for your understanding.


Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?

This conference is suitable for ages 12 and up. We ask that you please leave children younger than 12 at home. Please contact conference@freeoregonzooelephants.org should you need recommendations for childcare.

What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event?

Getting around from the University Place Hotel is a breeze! The TriMet Orange Line stops right at the hotel at the Lincoln St./SW 3rd Avenue MAX Station. In addition, the Portland Streetcar stops just 2 blocks away at SW 3rd and Harrison St. The hotel is also served by Trimet Buses #9, 17, 43, and 291. Please check trimet.org for latest updates and possible schedule changes.

What can I bring into the event?

Do bring: Notebooks, or note-taking devices, business cards for networking, a sweater or layers if you are sensitive to hotel temps. April in Portland can be beautiful, or be a bit rainy, so consider the weather forecast when packing. If you'll be heading out for tourist attractions before, during, or after the conference, bring comfortable shoes and a weatherproof outer layer.

Don't bring: weapons, hate speech, or any attitudes not conducive to building our activist community.
