About this Event

Prepare to teach the Jewish Resistance of the Partisans during the Days of Remembrance and Holocaust Remembrance Day – Yom HaShoah v’HaGevurah

This webinar is designed for educators who want to learn more about the 30,000 Jews who fought back against the Nazis and their collaborators as Jewish partisans, and how to incorporate JPEF’s materials into their classrooms.

• Use examples from the Bielski Brigade (the largest all Jewish partisan unit), depicted in the motion picture Defiance, to explore leadership, honor and community responsibility during times of struggle. Explore discussions in Teaching with Defiance.

• Learn how to use the central themes of Jewish partisan perseverance and resilience to help students navigate this challenging time.

Experienced classroom educators, Mary Kelly Friedman (Jesuit High School - Sacramento), Ilona Shechter (Gideon Hausner Jewish Day School, - Palo Alto, CA), will share their successful approaches for engaging students in the study of the Jewish partisans.
