About this Event

Join the University of Minnesota Extension Master Gardeners of Benton County for their Gardening Seminars. This event will include three great horticulture topics. All gardening enthusiasts are welcome to attend. There will be door prizes. Free but registration is required.

Keynote: Tree Pests and Diseases in Our Area & What a Changing Climate Means for Our Trees

Gina Hugo, Forest Resource Specialist for Sherburne Soil and Water Conservation District. Gina will help you assess and care for the trees in your landscape as new pests and changing growing conditions continue to challenge us. Learn to identify signs and symptoms of these threats and acquire strategies to mitigate the impacts and preserve the benefits your trees provide.

Session # 2: Selecting & Caring For Hardy Shrub Roses in MN

Deb Keiser, Rose Specialist at the Virginia Clemens Rose Garden. Deb will explain the criteria to use when choosing roses to fit your landscape. She has examples of winter hardy shrub roses will show how to plant, prune, and care for zone 4 winter hardy shrub roses.

Session # 3: Growing and Caring for Orchids

Jayme Hennek, Stearns County Extension Master Gardener Orchid Growing Specialist Jayme will teach the basics of growing orchids in MN and how to get them to bloom again. Learn which orchids are the easiest to grow, proper lighting, watering, temperature, humidity and potting.
