FAQs

Free Second Saturday: Special Edition

  • In October, we are extending Free Second Saturday to more than 100 redwood parks, including national, state, national, city, county and regional parks.

How do I get a day-use parking pass?

To get your pass, enter your information on the registration form. You will receive an email with a link to your downloadable day-use parking pass immediately.

How do I use my pass?

Pass must be printed; passes displayed on smartphones or other devices will not be accepted. Present printed pass to staff at the park. If the park is unstaffed, display the pass on your windshield or in the designated area as indicated at the park.

Does my day-use parking pass guarantee parking?

No, parking is first-come first-served, and parking capacity is limited at many parks. If a park reaches parking capacity, the park may limit vehicle entry until spaces become available. Please obey parking regulations.

How many people can I bring?

The free pass is valid for your vehicle, including its passengers.

Can I download a day-use parking pass for more than one park?

No, you may only download a pass for one park. Passes are limited and we want as many people as possible to enjoy a state park!

Does everyone get free parking?

No. To get free parking at a park which usually charges day-use parking fees, you must present a day-use parking pass. Your pass must be printed – passes displayed on smartphones or other devices will not be accepted.

Can I bring my dog?

It’s always a good idea to check or call ahead to see if dogs are allowed on the trails in the park you wish to visit. Please remember that violations of these rules may lead to a costly citation. Remember too that you are financially responsible for injuries or damage caused by your dog. To ensure everyone’s visits to California redwood parks are pleasant, please do not leave your pet unattended, and remember to clean up after them.

See more information about visiting with your dog at a state park.

For national, regional, county and city parks, please see links to individual park information pages.

Are all California state parks participating? What about Muir Woods, Sequoia or Yosemite?

No. Only the redwood state parks listed at FreeRedwoodsDays.org. Muir Woods, Yosemite, and Sequoia/Kings Canyon are not participating. As you probably know, those well-loved parks are incredible places to see redwoods and giant sequoia and are visited by hundreds of thousands of people each year. One goal of Free Second Saturdays is to provide opportunities for people to visit and experience ALL OF THE OTHER amazing redwood parks—state, local and regional—that California has to offer.

How is Free Second Saturdays funded?

Free Second Saturdays is generously supported by Oracle and the members of Save the Redwoods League.

What happens in the event of inclement weather?

Individual parks may need to close in the event of severe weather conditions. Please check parks.ca.gov for information about state park closures. For national, regional, county and city parks, please see links to individual park information pages.

If I am unable to attend, how do I cancel my order?

If you are unable to attend, please cancel your reservation so that others may register for a free pass. Log in to your Eventbrite account to cancel or send a cancellation request through your order confirmation.

Where can I get driving directions and more information about visting the park?
