Event description

We are glad that you will be attending the MLK March, Festival and Food Drive on Monday, January 20, 2020. It's a truly uplifting experience -- unless you spend all morning circling UT, the Capitol and Huston-Tillotson University for parking.

TRY TRANSIT INSTEAD! | Capital Metro and The Austin Area Heritage Council are offering you a free Local Day pass -- so you can spend more time celebrating Dr. Martin Luther King's legacy and less time finding parking.

DOWNLOAD A *FREE* DIGITAL DAY PASS | Capital Metro is making it easier than ever to try transit. Simply sign up for a DIGITAL Day Pass (below) and we'll send you a free Local Day Pass via the CapMetro App.

  • Instructions for accessing your tickets will be included in your Registration Confirmation after completing this form.
  • This event registration page is to sign you up for the FREE CapMetro Day passes only.
  • Please visit the official MLK Celebration website to learn more about the event.

DID YOU KNOW KIDS RIDE FREE? | Students 18 years old and younger ride free on all Capital Metro services! Therefore, ONLY ADULTS will need Capital Metro Day Passes to ride!

GETTING TO THE MARCH & FESTIVAL | You can start your trip nearly anywhere in Austin with a Cap Metro Local Day Pass.

  • The MLK Statue is located on the University of Texas at Austin campus and transit routes 1, 3, 7, 10, 19, 20, 801 and 803 will get you there!
  • The Texas State Capitol is located in downtown Austin and transit routes 1, 2, 3, 6, 7, 10, 19, 20, 30, 801 and 803 will get you there!
  • Huston Tillotson University is located in Central East Austin and transit routes 2, 4, and 322 will get you there!

None of the transit routes directly serve your home? No problem. Start your trip at a Capital Metro Park & Ride and/or find a free parking spot along Capital Metro's High-Frequency Network (every 15 min, 7 days a week!) so you can save yourself the time, money and hassle of finding parking around town.

AUSTIN MLK MARCH, FESTIVAL & FOOD DRIVE celebrates Dr. Martin Luther King’s legacy while uplifting diversity and multi-culturalism in our city. The MLK Community March kicks off at 9am with a short program at the MLK Statue on the University of Texas campus. Participants then march to the Texas State Capitol for a short program at 10am and continue the march to the historic Huston-Tillotson University, where the MLK Community Festival kicks off at 11:15am and lasts until 3:30pm.

TRANSIT ADVENTURES is a transportation demand management (TDM) program designed to increase transit ridership and reduce parking demand among participants. Capital Metro hosts the program to provide transit training in a risk-free, low-stakes environment for groups of 10 - 40 people and can organize a team-building trip for FREE for your office, neighborhood group, organization, church or school using our transit services. Contact us and let us plan a Transit Adventure for your group!
